大学入試史上空前の大改革といわれる共通１次試験が全国でいっせいに開始された。難問・奇問を追放し多くの資料で受験性の能力を判断しようとするもので、準備・検討に10年を費やしたものだったが、偏差値を明確にし、高校の格づけを激しくするばかりか、学生の創造性を根本から奪ってしまう大改悪であった。これ以降、試験のやりかたは目まぐるしく変化していくことになる。
